The next room was lit by a thousand tiny lanterns, each casting a warm, forgiving glow on the floor. There were no podiums, no velvet ropes. Just people. They walked, sat, lay on vast cushions. There was no performance, no posing. An elderly man with a map of scars on his back helped a young woman with a mastectomy scar adjust her cushion. Two children, unburdened by self-consciousness, drew on a paper floor with crayons held in chubby fists.
