The story centers on Ganga and his pregnant wife Rameshwari (played by Bollywood's ultimate onscreen mother, Nirupa Roy). After being driven out by a jealous elder brother, Ganga builds a successful business but is tragically killed. Rameshwari gives birth to a boy named Rameshwar (Manoj Kumar), who goes missing. The film relies heavily on destiny, familial greed, and eventual redemption.
