Set against the backdrop of political unrest in 1937 Brazil, Amor Estranho Amor follows an adult man named Hugo who returns to his childhood home. He recalls a pivotal, intense two-day period when he was a 12-year-old boy. Dropped off by his grandmother, Hugo is left to live with his mother, Anna (played by Vera Fischer ), who runs a luxurious, highly exclusive bordello serving wealthy politicians and influential figures.

In the landscape of Brazilian cinema, few films are shrouded in as much notoriety, myth, and censorship as Walter Hugo Khouri’s 1982 erotic drama, (internationally known as Love Strange Love ). Often pursued by collectors under the banner of "amorestranhoamorlovestrangelove1982vhs+exclusive," this film has achieved a cult status that transcends its artistic merits, largely due to its controversial subject matter and the decades-long suppression of its theatrical and televised release.
