Sakthivel (Kamal Haasan) returns from London to his village with plans to modernize it. But his father, the respected village chieftain Muthuveer Thevar (Sivaji Ganesan), has other ideas rooted in feudal pride and tradition. What follows is a clash of generations, ideologies, and egos, leading to a devastatingly powerful climax.

Kamal Haasan (who also wrote and produced), Sivaji Ganesan, Nassar, Revathi, and Gautami. Direction: Bharathan. Music: Ilaiyaraaja.

: The haunting score by Ilaiyaraaja and the evocative cinematography of P. C. Sreeram (who won a National Award for this film) captured the rustic essence of Pollachi, where most of the movie was filmed. Critical Acclaim and Cultural Impact
