Movie U-571 Review

Despite the technical accuracy of the submarine mechanics, the central premise of U-571 is a complete fabrication, and it is for this reason the film is remembered perhaps more for its politics than its plot.

The U.S. Navy dispatches Lieutenant Commander Mike Dahlgren (Bill Paxton) and his hand-picked crew on a daring and dangerous mission. Disguising their own submarine as a German supply vessel, their objective is to intercept a damaged German U-boat, U-571, and steal its Enigma machine before it can be scuttled. The boarding party, led by Lieutenant Andrew Tyler (Matthew McConaughey), successfully captures the device.
