Under Section 67 of the IT Act, posting obscene content can lead to up to three years in prison and a fine of Rs 5 lakh for a first offense. More severely, Section 67A of the IT Act, which deals with sexually explicit content, prescribes up to five years in jail and a fine of Rs 10 lakh for a first offense. A repeat offense can lead to up to seven years in jail.
