If the P-lead wire becomes disconnected, frayed, or broken between the magneto case and the cockpit switch, the magneto remains LIVE (HOT) at all times—even if the ignition switch is turned to "OFF". If the engine propeller or drive shaft is turned even slightly by hand, the magneto can fire a spark plug, starting the engine unexpectedly and causing severe injury or death.
